Fire Departments and First Responders train regularly for motor vehicle accidents and dealing with human patients, but what do you do when there is a trailer full of animals involved in an incident?
During this training, firefighters will be trained on the following topics:
*Trailer familiarization: 2 horse trailer/4 horse trailer w/ living quarters/livestock trailer/commercial cattle trailer
*Livestock transportation hazards
*Securing scenes
*Animal handling
*Containment options > ensuring proper containment BEFORE releasing livestock from trailers
*Living quarter trailer fires
*How to approach stressed and scared animals
*Observing behavior of cattle, horses and hogs
There are hundreds of thousands of farm animals transported on U.S. roadways daily, and livestock trailer accidents are inevitable. We are here to provide your department/agency with knowledge on how to handle these situations.
